R.I.P.

Today, Lech Kaczynski, the Polish president, as well as 96 other people, including some of the highest military and civilian leaders, died in a plane crash in Russia.

  1. My mom called me and told me about this. Absolutely horrible. It's hard to really imagine something like this happening. I thought about you when she told me.

  2. This is a terrible situation! I can not believe this happened. I did not hear anything about this, thank you for making me aware of this and providing me with the story.

  3. It's definitely a terrible situation for Poland as well as Polish people all over the world. People were calling my mom at 8am and she was on the phone all day. The relationship between Poland and Russia has never been good and this event doesn't make things any better. The Polish president and the other 96 people were on their way to a memorial service commemorating the 70-year anniversary of the Katyn Massacre, where about 22,000 Polish officers and intelligentsia were murdered by the Soviets. It wasn't until 1990 that Russia finally acknowledged the killings.

    If you'd like to read more about definitely go for it. I just feel like it's really important to mention because a lot of the articles written and news stations either mentioned it briefly or not at all.
